How is amber actually formed?
Amber forms when plant resin produced by trees fossilizes. When the resin flows out, for example to protect injuries, and then comes into contact with air and water, it begins to harden. If the resin remains in a moist environment, it can be preserved and fossilize over millions of years. Over time, the resin is covered by sediments and put under pressure, which makes it harder and darker. The color of amber depends on the materials contained in the resin, such as organic matter, minerals, and pigments. Most commonly, you’ll find golden or brown amber, but it can also occur in other colors such as red, green, or blue.

Customers encountering amber for the first time might be surprised by the appearance and especially the weight of the “stone.” Amber is even lighter than plastic and doesn’t really feel like a “stone” in your hand. It’s smooth, soft, and incredibly light. Please note that amber consists of fossil (tree) resin.
