The New Zealand green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) has been a well-known natural product for centuries, already used by New Zealand’s indigenous people – the “Māori” – for its many wonderful properties, and still is to this day. The mussel provides a high content of glycosaminoglycans (GAG) (long-chain amino sugar compounds).
