The fresh green-lipped mussels are opened. The shell is removed. The meat is centrifuged and frozen. The frozen mussel meat is then crushed and freeze-dried. It is a gentle process that ensures the liquid contained in the meat is removed without heat application. This preserves the valuable and active components of the green-lipped mussel, especially the valuable omega-3 fatty acids. In the final manufacturing process, the mussel concentrate is ground to enable further processing into products (capsules or powder). Typical extraction ratio 5:1. (From 5 parts mussel meat, 1 part mussel concentrate is obtained).
