What you might be missing – and what’s on your plate that provides it.

Tired, even though you get enough sleep? Your hair is thinning, your nails are breaking? Such observations can have many possible causes – sometimes a nutrient is behind it, but often it’s something entirely different. The Vitality Check shows you which vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds are associated with your observations. As a starting point for a conversation with your doctor, not as a substitute.

What’s on your mind right now?

Type in a keyword – such as “hair loss”, “calf cramps”, or “poor sleep” – or choose from the options below. Multiple selections are expressly encouraged: Only a combination provides useful information.

Common Concerns

Broader topics with multiple possible connections.

Individual Symptoms

Specific observations that may indicate something particular. The hit list here is shorter and therefore more meaningful.

How to interpret the results

A match is not a diagnosis. The fact that magnesium is listed for calf cramps does not mean you are deficient in magnesium. It means: If someone complains about calf cramps, magnesium is one of the things that can be looked into. Whether you actually have a deficiency can be shown by a blood test – not a website.

The more information, the more useful. If you only select “fatigue”, you’ll get a long list – fatigue can mean almost anything. If you select “fatigue”, “paleness”, and “hair loss” together, iron will appear at the top with a note that it matches all three entries. This is the actual information this page provides.

And the most common cause isn’t even on the list. Too little sleep, too much stress, too little exercise, and a monotonous diet explain more complaints than all nutrients combined. That’s why there’s a section further down.

Nutrient Lexicon

All substances known to the Vitality Check – regardless of your selection. Each entry shows what the body needs it for, what a deficiency might indicate, which foods contain it, and what to say about the quantity.

What’s more effective than any capsule

Dietary supplements can fill gaps. But they cannot compensate for what is missing in everyday life – and the following six points affect almost all the complaints mentioned above.

Food

Plenty of vegetables, some fruit, good fats, enough protein, and as few processed foods as possible. If you eat a colorful and varied diet, you’ll cover most nutrients without needing supplements. Rule of thumb: The more colors on your plate, the broader your nutrient supply.

Exercise

You don’t need a gym membership. A brisk half-hour walk a day measurably improves circulation, metabolism, mood, and sleep. More important than intensity is consistency.

Sleep

Seven to nine hours. During this time, the body repairs what was used up during the day. Fixed times, a cool room, and the last hour before bed without a screen are helpful.

Rest

Chronic stress depletes magnesium, disrupts sleep, and weakens the immune system. What helps varies – walking, breathing exercises, yoga, music, a book. The key is to have a moment each day where nothing needs to be done.

Hydration

One and a half to two liters of water or unsweetened tea. Every nutrient is transported in water; too little of it makes you tired and unfocused long before you feel thirsty.

Daylight

Between October and March, the sun in our latitudes is not strong enough for the skin to produce vitamin D. But even in winter, daylight in the morning sets the internal clock – and that plays a role in sleep and mood.

Frequently Asked Questions

How reliable is this analysis?

It reflects which nutrients are associated with which complaints in scientific literature. Nothing more. It does not make a diagnosis, does not identify a deficiency, and does not know your medical history. Complaints like fatigue or hair loss have many possible causes, and most of them are not a nutrient issue. Take the results as a starting point for a conversation with your doctor or pharmacist.

What is the difference between a deficiency and an increased need?

A deficiency is when so little is absorbed that the body can no longer perform its functions – this can usually be detected in the blood. An increased need arises due to circumstances: stress, illness, pregnancy, intense sports, certain medications, or age. Then nothing is ’empty’ yet; it’s just that more is used up than usual.

Better through food or through supplements?

First through food – that’s why it states for each nutrient where it naturally occurs. A food never provides just one substance, but always a whole bundle that works better together than individually. Supplementation is useful where a gap can hardly be closed through food: vitamin D in winter, vitamin B12 for purely plant-based diets, folic acid when trying to conceive, or if an examination has shown a deficiency.

What should I look for when buying?

The actual amount contained – not the size of the capsule. The form: magnesium citrate is absorbed differently than magnesium oxide, methylcobalamin differently than cyanocobalamin. A short ingredient list without unnecessary additives. And origin and testing, especially for algae and natural resins, which can accumulate heavy metals. Large numbers on the front say little; the back says everything.

Can herbal remedies have side effects?

Yes, and serious ones at that. “Natural” does not mean “harmless”. Ginkgo, turmeric, omega-3, and grape seed extract can affect blood clotting – this is significant with blood-thinning medications. St. John’s wort weakens the effect of numerous medications. Ashwagandha interferes with the thyroid gland. Therefore, for each substance in the lexicon, what needs to be considered is stated. Discuss intake if you are taking medication or have an illness.

What are adaptogens, anyway?

Plants and fungi that are supposed to help the body cope with stress, rather than pushing it in one direction. A sedative calms, a stimulant wakes you up – an adaptogen is supposed to balance where something is out of whack. Ashwagandha, rhodiola, reishi, and maca are among them. They don’t work immediately but over weeks, and are usually taken in courses.

What happens to my data?

Nothing leaves your device. The entire analysis runs in your browser; nothing is sent to us and nothing is stored except a note in your own browser so that your selection is still there on your next visit. You can also remove this via “Reset selection”.

Important Note

This page is for informational purposes only and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It does not establish a connection between your symptoms and a specific cause, nor can it.

Complaints that persist, worsen, or worry you should be medically clarified – especially if this page mentions a plausible-sounding nutrient. The most dangerous mistake would be to overlook a treatable cause for months by taking capsules.

Before starting any supplement, speak with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you are taking medication, have an illness, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Different values apply to children and adolescents than those stored here. All information is without guarantee.
