Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid. It has important functions in the central nervous system and in the development of your pet. Taurine is involved in regulating body temperature and maintaining eyesight.
A taurine deficiency can have serious consequences for cats. The risk of deficiency arises when cats are fed homemade food (BARF), dog food, or predominantly plant-based diets. In certain cases, supplementing dog food with taurine may also be necessary. For example, there is an increased need when feeding frozen food or a high proportion of plant protein. For large dogs, a taurine supplement is recommended to support heart function.
Feeding Recommendation:
For dietary supplementation, Tierlieb Taurine can be added daily. Mix the powder into wet food.
- Cats: 2-3 heaped measuring spoons (400-600 mg) daily, depending on body size.
- Dogs: 3 heaped measuring spoons (600 mg) daily per 10 kg body weight.
In cases of increased need or an existing taurine deficiency, the amount can be doubled.
